INHERITANCE LAW AND ESTATE PLANNING

Inheritance Law is a highly sensitive subject which needs to be treated with a sense for confidentiality far beyond what a lawyer has to provide in his daily business. In particular, the organisation of successions within an industrial family requires careful analysis and strategic planning. A sound knowledge of the difficulties and the complex legal statutes inherent in Inheritance Law is the prerequisite for being able to advise in this field of law. However, once a case involves international aspects, it is necessary not only to "know" inheritance law but also to be "fluent" in conflict of laws.

BRÖDERMANN & JAHN offers clients these services: The firm's experience is based on Dr. Erhard Jahn's practice in complex inheritance law litigation as well as structuring the estate of industrial families (including foundations). Dr. Andrea Tiedemann has gained considerable experience in international Inheritance Law during her academic time with the Hamburg Max-Planck-Institute for Foreign and Private International Law (1985-1988, several legal opinions and publications). Further, her legal practice comprises more than ten years experience in national and international Inheritance Law litigation (including German probate proceedings for non-German citizens, certificates of inheritance) as well as estate planning.

The Inheritance Law Team is jointly headed by Dres. Erhard Jahn and Andrea Tiedemann. Apart from Inheritance Law litigation, the team has a special focus on estate planning, succession in industrial families and foundations.
